The shame of Tighty Whities

ps7

How can a guy over the age of 12 wear tighty whities?  I just don’t get the obsessions some people have with this ultra plain undergarment.  I keep seeing guys at the gym wearing these waist high kiddy underpants and thinking, “WHY?”.

Let me hear it Disco Valante blog readers.   “Why the fascination?”

Disco Valante Update 10MAR09

dv-100

Well the end is near my friends.  Here is a status of what is happening with Disco Valante.

1.  Photographer finished retouching photos. :)

2. Web Designer finishing up.

3. Graphic Designer is making banners for web advertisement.

I am soooo close.  I am currently looking at 20 cartons of underwear that the trucking company just dropped of on my door.  I want to tear the boxes open and roll around in my creation.

I have included another sample image from the photo shoot.  Check out Greg showing a small piece of his booty.  Tell me what you think.

Silk scarfs are sooo bad ass!

scarf1

Silk scarfs are sooo bad ass!  I know what you are thinking, “Who in the hell wears scarfs?”.

The first person is Fred from the cartoon Scooby Doo.  Fred was the alpha male pimp of the cartoon.  He was always off with Daphne getting busy while Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby did all the real work.  Secondly, the Marlboro Man.  American cigarette pop icon, Marlboro Man, was a roughneck cowboy who could drive cattle and drink whiskey like water.  And lastly, yours truly.  The creator of Disco Valante and Jock Muscle and the baddest mofo you’ll ever know.

Admittedly, I do get a number of stares because most people have never seen a guy wear a silk scarf.  However, the first rule about having style is you cannot look like everyone else.

I hear you laughing and saying, “Only queeny guys wear shit like that.”.  NO.  NO.  NO.  I would venture to say the more masculine you are, the better the overall atmosphere of style you exude while wearing a neck accessory like a bandana or silk scarf.  Style is about having the confidence to wear unconventional items that create a sense of coolness.

So cowboy the fuck up, be a man, and tie on a silk scarf.

50,000 and going strong!

dv501

Thanx everyone for coming to my blog in anticipation of the Disco Valante clothing line launch in Decemeber (fingers crossed).  The DV blog has soared with over 50,000 hits.  Not bad for a guy who has never read or made a blog prior to this venture.

It has been a long road of setbacks and delays.  I’m actually headed to the mail carrier office to pick up a package of samples from China.  These samples are possibly the last samples I will view before I give authorization to proceed with production.  (fingers crossed…again)

I know my blogging has cooled down since the summer months but with the combination of clothing line preparation, my real job (military officer), looking for another steady job until DV can support me, and a new project I’ve been working on (that I will reveal after the Thanksgiving Holiday) I’ve been a busy boy.

Thanx again and it won’t be long until you are wearing Disco Valante!

Guys showing off their underwear

ps5

In the last 15 – 20 years, hip hop stars have made exposing your underwear a common and cool trend in America.  Sagging pants began in American prisons, where oversized uniforms were issued without belts to prevent suicide and their use as weapons.  The style spread through rappers and music videos from the ghetto to the suburbs.  Now, everyone does it.  This infectious style of pants wear and underwear exposure is displayed by twink skater guys, trendy streetwear fellas, pastel colored polo wearing suburban kids and even Japanese school boys.

Is it ok to show a bit of underwear or is it vulgar?  I would be truly excited if I wear walking down the street or in a club and I saw some guy exposing his Disco Valante underwear to see…but I have a personal and professional interest in free publicity.

Some conservative American communities have gone as far as rewarding fines to guys who expose their underwear.

Is there something arousing in seeing a hint of waistband and fabric rising atop a guy’s jeans and exposing a closer look at his onion booty?

Or has this fashion statement outlived it’s time and should guys return to non-low waist trousers that give aid to such underwear exposure?  Or does it really depend on how hot the guy is if it is acceptable?  :)

Do women like to buy underwear for their man?

I think buying underwear can be a truly personal experience.  If I’m in an underwear buying mood, I like to take my sweet time.  I hate it when a salesperson is invading my space trying to tell me what underwear they think would look good on me.  It is really creepy to me.

However, on the flip side, when someone close to me purchases underwear for me, I think it is rather HOT…provided it’s not flannel boxers or tighty whites

I know most of the Disco Valante blog entries are directly targeted to men however, there are a few ladies that read this blog.

Ladies do you like to buy underwear for your man? Is there a sense of hot sexual anticipation of buying your boy toy a new pair of briefs? Or is it, if you don`t buy them, that lazy bastard would keep wearing the same ratty ones with holes?

Fellas, do you like it when your lady buys underwear for you? Is there something arousing about your lady thinking about your little soldier enough to make sure he is well clothed? Or is she trying to control every aspect of your life including what underwear you put on?

Disco Valante wants to know how you feel.

Also, for my gay readers, do you like your partner buying you underwear?

United Colors of Disco Valante

Well, I’ve been agonizing over the color swatches from the Pantone catalog.  Blue just isn’t blue…there are like twenty different blues.  Which one is too bright?  Which one is too light?  Which one is right?  You can really go crazy…trust me.

Because Disco Valante isn’t made for my satisfaction but the satisfaction of my future underwear loving customers, I pose these questions, “Do you like the typical ‘blah’ colors seen in many other underwear companies?  Or do you long for more vibrant tones in your underwear that capture imagination and a hidden coolness that only you and your f*ck buddy know about?”.

I guess I maybe tipping my hand a bit in how I want you to answer.

Cuffin’ the pants

I must admit I wasn’t always a fan of this look.  I always see it in Ralph Lauren stores and I think it looks too fake and snobby.  However, I think it can be worn with classic coolness and style.  Take a look at this guy in the photo.  His look is very understated…simple T, khakis, dark blazer, and a pair of patent leather loafers.  However, he exudes a coolness that rarely seen in reality.

Disco Valante wants you to try to pull this look off and tell us how you fair on the streets.  I’m sure you’ll get complimented!

Honey, hold my man bag.

I personally hate carrying a bag.  All Disco Valante needs is his credit card, chap stick, car keys and phone.  However, even though I don’t personally carry bags, I can appreciate them.  I can understand when people live in urban environments and don’t have cars to throw their things in, a bag maybe necessary to make it through the day.

When I lived in Japan, it was not uncommon to see men carrying cool looking tote bags, commonly referred to as man bags.  It was more uncommon to see men NOT carrying such an accessory.

A man bag can be a cool add-on to a killer wardrobe but, in America, we will not let go of the backpack.  I cringe everytime I see a guy wearing a cool suit or nice clothing while carrying a back pack.  I understand if you are doing some physical activity where a back pack maybe more appropriate for the wear and tear but not in the everyday commute of a stylish man.

If you must carry a bag throughout the day, get something cool.  If you and the 6 year old kid next door have the same taste in bags, shame on you.

Am I being a total snob about this guys?  Let Disco Valante know what you are thinking.

Why do American women love guys in board shorts and hate guys in Speedos?

Historically, the beach is a place where sexuality has been expressed. It is a natural reaction to wearing next to nothing. Disco Valante has noticed a very telling trend on this thread. American women hate the overt sexuality of men in Speedos. But why? Are American women threated by a man’s sexual presence? Are they envious?

In America, women are the beacons of beauty and sexuality. Meanwhile, men are quickly branded as gay or weak if they appear too beautiful.

Quick Story to illustrate this point:
All military pilots have call signs, like “Maverick” in TOP GUN. My Naval Academy classmate Christian, who is a Navy pilot, is probably one of the most handsome men I have ever seen. His call sign is BROKE BACK. I asked the other pilots, “Why is Christian’s call sign BROKE BACK?”. Their reply was, “A man that good looking has to be gay.”.

American beaches are the place where the female form is the center of attention. Beautiful woman with smooth curves wearing skimpy two pieces swim suits can be the inspiration of hit TV shows…BAYWATCH. However, does a man of equal physical beauty wearing a Speedo threaten a woman’s turf?

This girl commented to me once, “I don’t go out with overly attractive or well dressed men because I want to be the center of attention when we go out.”. I’m not saying she speaks for all women but could this be a glimpse into the female mind?

Or is American just a nation of sexually prudish individuals? One could easily make this assumption based on our beach attire, our view of prostitution, and attitude toward the GBLT community.

Ladies tell us if my assumptions are way off point. Fellas, why do you think women hate men wearing Speedos?

Pretty in pink

Once agian, Disco Valante must instruct the class on the color of pink and its place in fashion.  I would have thought the students in my last class would have passed on the this information to rest of society but they have failed me.

After a much heated debate in my office with a victim of bad fashion,  I have one statement to make…PINK ROCKS!

Why are so many men afraid to wear pink?

A man who wears pink is a someone who is daring.  A man who wears pink gets complimented.  When I wear pink, I have to beat the ladies (and the occasional male admirer) off with a stick.  Everytime I have seen a man wear pink his stride is more confident and his poise is more manly.

Do you have what it takes to wear pink?  Do you like pink on men but are to shy to wear it yourself?  Or do you think pink is strictly for little girls?  Disco wants to know.

Thou shalt not wear underwear while swimming

Swimming in your underwear is not the most stylish statement I suggest you make.  I can only validate swimming in your underwear under the following conditions:

1.  You attend a house party where the drunken festivities move from the living room to the pool out back.

2.  You are wearing Disco Valante underwear and realize there is nothing better to show off your sexiness.

3.  You are built like a cover model of a fitness magazine.

Outside of these circumstances I don’t think your swim attire should consist of tighty whities.  Showing off your junk at the pool in a public setting just isn’t as sexy as one would think.  I think it is rather creepy.

Does your swim attire consist of the underwear you put on before you headed to the pool?  Under what circumstances would you wear underwear while swimming?

Denim man panties

Guy in denim underwear

I love a great pair of jeans but I’m not sure about a great pair of underwear made out of denim. All I can think about is “going commando” in a pair of jeans and having the constant irritation of denim rubbing the family jewels raw. However, I’m confident they are treated to ensure comfort (fingers crossed).

Since Disco Valante Clothing is prepping for the fall launch, I want to know if you think you could add denim undies into your regular underwear rotation or is this just a novelty to throw in your drawer of thongs, jock straps and other special occasion man panties.

Who STILL wears tighty whities?

Black guy Wearing Tighty Whities

When I think of tighty whites, I think of a 8 year old boy watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating a bowl of cereal. I can’t really understand why any fashionable man would gravitate toward them! However, I have been wrong before…I think it was in 1986.

Can this choice of ultimate plainness be sexy? Disco Valante wants to know:

1. Are there any guys out there that still wear tighty whities?

2. If so, do you try to use the dick hole feature?

Or do you think tighty whites are strictly for little boys?

Is black underwear hot or NOT?

Guy Wearing Black Underwear

Once you go black…you never go back! But does that sentiment apply to underwear? ;)

Black underwear is always stylish and screams sexy! However, that’s just my expert opinion.

Since Disco Valante Clothing is prepping for the fall launch, I want to know if you find black underwear classically erotic or is there more to be desired with more daring colors and designs.

The evolution of t-shirts: The Deep V-neck!

I was just reading Cameron‘s (aka Tuffie) Blog, Tuffie’s Rants and Raves. He had this wonderful discussion about t-shirts.

For about a year now, deep V-neck T-shirts have been all the rage in the US. Some hate them, when they should be LOVED! Only to state the obvious, deep V-necks look better when you have a clean shaven, manly chest. I guess that’s why I rock them. ;)

Being a fan of the deep V-necks, I plan on incorporating them into my opening collection. However, Disco Valante wants to get a pulse of what the people actually want. Do you think deep V-necks are cool? And why or why not?

Wearing old underwear is not sexy

Guys wearing torn underwear

As I am writing this post, some guy is sitting at his computer wearing a pair of underwear he has had for the last 7 years. The elastic in the waistband has lost it’s elasticity, the color is so faded it looks like acid wash, and I’m sure there are probably a few holes.

Wearing beat up, torn underwear is just ugly. Even if they are clean, they still look dirty. A man should always renew his underwear collection and discard of older pairs. I know what some of you are saying, “Nobody sees them but me!”. That, my friend, is the wrong attitude.

I recommend an underwear self life of no longer than 18 months. However, some materials hold better than others but styles and designs are always changing. Not only should your outer wardrobe be updated but so should your man panties.

Don’t worry you’ll be able to update your underwear collection with Disco Valante soon enough!

The enduring relationship between fitness and style

Shirtless Black Guy with Abs

Fashion isn’t just about what you wear however, but how you wear it! You could take the exact same clothing and put it on two different men and it could look completely different. No matter what type of clothing it is, the fashions will look better on a man that is in shape than on a man that it is out of shape.

Taking care of your body is simply a matter of making a few minor changes to your lifestyle such as diet and exercise. Working out a few hours at the gym every week won’t kill you and you will definitely see a difference in your body. You’ll feel better about your body, be more confident and, therefore, look better in whatever you choose to wear.

With that being said, when developing your own personal style the most important thing to remember is to stay true to yourself. Just because a men’s fashion trend looked great on your favorite actor doesn’t necessarily mean it’s for you. If you’re uncomfortable in it, chances are it isn’t the style for you.

There are enough styles of men’s clothing out there that everyone should be able to find their own personal style. Developing your own style should always be fun. When you discover what style works for you, you’ll see that striving to look your best isn’t work at all; it just comes naturally.

Is your beach bag packed properly?

Beach season is here! I know lots of you are tanning and splashing around in the hot summer sun. Disco Valante is going to give you some tips on what to bring to a fashionable day at the beach.

Sunglasses – It’s a staple at the beach. They not only protect our eyes from UV rays and make sun tanning less horrid on the eyes, but also make you look so damned good! First off, your sunglasses should compliment your face. Square faces look good with more cubic looking frames while round faces are complimented by rounded shades. However, every one looks good in a pair of aviators. Beach glasses should be fun and less conservative then your typical day sunglasses.

Swim suits – It’s the battle between Speedos versus board shorts! In places outside of the United States, it is normal to wear Speedos. I remember my friends, in Naples, laughing at me once when I wore board shorts to the beach. They thought I was wearing regular pants. The beach is a place for sexuality to be exposed.

In America, the idea of the “banana hammock” creeps out a lot of guys. Speedos should compliment your skin. If you’re naturally tanned, go for bright colors like blue and yellow. However, black Speedos are classic! For board shorts don’t make them too long. You want to show off some skin after all.

Flip flops – Walking on hot sand is not funny. It hurts like Hell! So proper flip flops are essential. I have two pairs: Havanas with their extra gummy feeling, and a pair of bamboo slippers. The bamboo slippers look great for when I head out to a beach snack shack with some friends.

Beach towel – And no, not the ones you dry yourself with but the one you lay on. No patterns of Goofy or Budweiser; save those for tourists. Opt instead for plain colors or even my personal favorite, the bamboo print!

Beach bag – You need a bag to hide your wallet, keys, food, books, condoms and lube! :) I always bring a backpack or tote bag. They’re sporty and easy to carry! Keep your wallet and keys in a plastic zip lock bag to avoid getting it dirty or wet.

Beach shirts – The rules are the same as with swimsuits – Get colors that go with your skin tone. Wear what you like as long as it’s short sleeved and goes well with your swimsuit.

Did I miss anything?

Are thongs just for strippers?

I love buying new underwear but I never really understood the male thong. I understand woman wear them to hide panty lines. But why should a man wear one?

I totally get the erotic nature of seeing a piece of cloth disappear between two luscious mounds of onion booty but do men really wear these or is this just a novelty? Having never tried one, I just imagine it being super uncomfortable with a string up your ass all day.

Disco Valante wants to know if you think thongs are a great addition to your underwear collection or just costumes for male strippers shaking their money maker?

The urban renewal of men’s shorts

It’s the short shorts, fellas; the short shorts! Think of the 70s and the early 80s. And in 2008, fashion itself would prove that trend has a cycle—it starts and it ends and it goes back again decades after. I know, I know most guys don’t like to show alot of skin. For all you fashion forward thinking guys out there, short shorts is what’s in.

To pull of this daring look you need two things. Toned legs and attitude! Having toned legs with nice quadriceps and an onion booty adds to the visual delight onlookers will get when you are walking. Just as a woman with very curvy legs gets attention, a man with toned masculine legs will equally attract positive stares. Lastly and most importantly, having the confident attitude is a must! You are definitely going to get your fair share of looks and if you don’t have the self esteem to rock this look you might as well stay home. I just bought a pair of short shorts with a matching blazer and everyone (guys and girls) was complimenting yours truly, Disco, on his daring wardrobe selection.

One added bonus for all those vertically challenged guys out there is that wearing shorts can lengthen your frame, giving the illusion of looking taller.

If you have a problem tracking down some really nice short shorts, the same effect can be had if you buy a similar cut short or nice pair of pants and have a tailor alter the fabric to the desired length. Also, don’t mess this look up with big clunky American styled shoes. Wear this look with a nice low profile shoe, loafer, or sandal.

Is white underwear hot or NOT?

I usually don’t buy white underwear. I like more charisma in my undergarments. Perhaps all those years as a kid and wearing Fruit of the Loom has turned me off the white colored underwear.

Since Disco Valante Clothing is prepping for the fall launch, I want to know if you find white underwear simple yet sexy or just plain BLAH.

Neon Rocks!

Thriller and Billie Jean ruled the airwaves. Knight Rider and the A-Team dominated television ratings. Rubik’s Cube, Pong and Pac-Man were the games to have. Bring back the 80′s!

Disco Valante loves that 80′s fashion has crept back into main stream. However, clothes in the 80′s had a tendency to hurt your eyes. In more ways than one. One such trend was neon colored clothes. Neon colors are cool but people in the 80′s failed in one aspect of fashion…wearing too damn much of it.

To pull off neon today, don’t over do it! Neon can best accentuate an outfit when displayed in the accessories. Set off a great outfit with a pair of neon colored patent leather kicks (shoes). Or a white T that has neon colored graphic designs paired with a pair of dark denim and a cool white belt. Even a pair of fun and sexy neon colored men’s underwear from your favorite designer Disco Valante can bring excitement to your birthday suit! Like everything else, success is in the details.

Fashion is suppose to be fun and wearable.

Why do American guys only wear board shorts?

The summer is upon us and beach seaon is about to begin. Mix hot weather, sand and water and you’ve got an excuse to get wet, get drunk and show skin at the beach.

Girls flaunt their bodies in their skimpy two pieces while playing volleyball but American blokes stick to baggy, horribly patterned board shorts while chuggin’ beers. On the beaches of southern France, Rio, and Tokyo, young guys, like those two Brazilians above, are sporting speedos and other cool form fitting swimwear.

Disco Valante wants YOU to give us your opinion why men’s beach apparel is so different in the US. Why do American guys gravitate toward board shorts? Is it becaue America was founded by prudish Puritans that passed down their conservative views of sex and sexuality that made them outcast in sex crazed Europe?

If you don’t own white jeans you are…WRONG!

Lot’s of guys (the unfashionable ones) frown at the thought of wearing white jeans. Occasionally, you can spot white jeans in magazines during the spring and summer. However, I’ve never seen any guy in America actually wear them. I don’t know why we American guys have such a hard time experimenting with fashion because white jeans are so “pimp”. Like all jeans, as long as you have the correct cut and shoes (this is a whole other topic I will address) they WILL work.

White jeans can be worn with surprisingly versatile looks for spring and summer. Don’t think that your favorite pair can only be worn with a pastel polo shirt and tennis shoes…very Lacoste! While that is a possibility, you can also try bright fitted T’s and flip flops. But I perfer high brown leather boots or kick ass lace-ups that have turned up toes and a “worn” look.

Here are some suggestions to rock out white jeans-

• Wear white jeans with black. With the right look, this interesting graphic combination can be bold for night.

• White is perfect for the summer, so try your jeans with everything from dress shoes to bare feet. Hell, it’s hot…go shirtless if you have the body!

• Avoid coordinating with completely white tennis shoes to escape the bore of all white look.

• Wear your white jeans beltless. The clean line of these classic jeans will be emphasized.

• Don’t obsess about potential staining of your white denim. Wear them and try not to worry too much about making marks on your jeans. Just don’t wear them if there is any chance of rain and DO NOT wear them with patterned underwear that will show thru…very tacky and ruins your entire look!

Disco Valante instructs on “How to Wear Pink”

The soon-to-be men’s underwear juggernaut, Disco Valante, holds yet another fashion class. Today’s subject is pink.

Pink is a great color. It’s unexpected, daring, and it compliments a man’s character of confidence. Pink can announce your presence better than any diamond studded necklace worn by Diddy, and it can do it with more flash.

Here are some suggestions to pull of pink.

A well-fitting polo shirt gives you one of the most masculine silhouettes possible–it highlights your arms, chest, and physique. Solid tees are also great, since you can wear them separately or layer with another shirt as a bold accent color.

Pink is a great way to get people’s attention at work, since few men wear pink to the office. Make sure it fits (not too baggy). As long as the shirt isn’t too bright patterns are OK.

For the few that are daring, pink sear sucker pinstripe pants can add a huge punch to your normally-overlooked lower half. Dress them up with a fitted white linen shirt, brown belt, and a low profile brown leather driving loafer and your off for Sunday brunch at the chic local cafe.

Pink is only for the daring and can make a very masculine statement but like all fashion statements has to be done right.

Class dismissed.

(Erik thanx for letting me use your pic. If your best friend can’t exploit you, then who can?)

The Definition of Style

What Is Style?

Style is a vibe, a look, or feel a person exudes, almost like an invisible force.  Style usually caries a positive conotation, however, style can also be bad.   Is someone debonair, bohemian or street trendy?   Or are they messy, ghetto or flashy?  When someone says I like your style, it usually refers to a person`s actions and demeanor, not just to a person`s clothes.

So, how does one get style?  If you are tall, fit, with a bubble butt and bulges in the all the right places, and sportin’ a supermodel face you can probably make a potato sack look good.  However, I have seen some physically beautiful people with zero style.  Good looks only take you so far, unfortunately it’s usually to the top…LOL! However, most of the general public usually needs help looking stylish.  Contrary to popular belief, style is not just about having the “it” leather jacket, following the latest trends or wearing brand name clothes (though sometimes it helps!).  Real style is an innate sense of knowing what works for you.   Are you artsy?   Are you a business executive, a party animal, or a sporty, gym rat type? Do you usually dine out at fancy restaurants and attend swanky charity events or do you like to go out clubbing?  It’s all about do you have the confidence it takes to pull off a certain look, having command presence when you walk into a room, and ultimately being who you want to be.
